In 1887, the railroad route between Fairmont and Chester was staked out, and four individuals, Frank Bruning, Friedrich Bruning, Heinrichs Voss, and John Carroll, donated twenty acres for a new town site on that route.
Assurity
In the 1890s, life was difficult for many Nebraskans. Protection against the financial devastation of accidents, sickness and premature death was a new concept. The founders of the three companies that would one day be joined as Assurity Life were committed to helping people through these times of crisis.
Hutchens Family
Lela and Derrel Hutchens after they eloped in 1931. Married for 70 years, Lela could always bring a smile to Derrel’s face.
The Seacrest Family
The two founding members of the Joe R. Seacrest Family were Joseph “Joe R.” (1920-1995) and Beatrice “Mike” (1920- ) Seacrest. Joe R. was a newspaper man in Lincoln and in four other Nebraska cities, North Platte, Scottsbluff, Lexington and Sidney. Members of the Seacrest Family owned and operated the Lincoln Journal newspaper from 1887 to 1995.
Ameritas
In 1887, there were no local insurance companies in Lincoln, Nebraska. Five local businessmen saw that as an opportunity, and on April 6, 1887, Old Line Bankers Life Insurance Company of Nebraska (Bankers Life) was formed. Bankers Life changed its name to Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. in 1988.
